The members of the Great Lakes Circles Resource Team would like to have every student in the area
be able to experience at least one Challenge Day during middle school and at
least one during high school. However, due to funding and logistical constraints
at this time, we are working to bring one or two Challenge Day events per year
to each high school and middle school in the county. The Challenge Day program
is so powerful that the school environment is transformed for the better even
when "only" 100 or 200 students at the school experience it. Those students
who DO experience it are empowered to change the school, and they are given
the tools to effect those changes.
Each school can set its own criteria for student selection. Our local
organization encourages selecting a broad and disparate group of students, and
including the natural "leaders" in the school, without judging whether those
leaders are "positive" or "negative" role models. We believe that the more
cliques and groups that are included in the Challenge Day, the more powerful
and effective the experience is for everyone involved.
