Tonight I made time to 'get real' with a friend of mine who is dealing with a serious health problem, and also give him the opportunity to 'get real' with me. We grew closer as a result and learned more about each other in the process. It was really important to both of us!

I went to Next Step and on the last day I sang a song for everyone. When I got home I sang to the group of people who are in a group at school with me. I sang the same song and they asked me whether or not I was in choir. I said I wasn't in choir but I will be going to choir next year. This changed me personally because I don't feel scared to get up in front of groups. Especially if it is my school mates.

I am part of the Mentors Plus program and have been mentoring a teenage girl for 4 years. I normally see her once a week for a few hours. This past weekend, I arranged an extra outing so she could attend a 'Sweet 16' party of another girl I know through church, who also knows the girl I mentor. It was a long drive to & from Flat Rock for the party but we had a great time! I taught her how to use a map and compass to navigate (which she thought was 'kind of like a puzzle') and we jammed to the Queen Greatest Hits CD all the way back with the sunroof open. It was well worth the time and effort.

I drove into Lansing yesterday to support a friend who was singing in a church choir concert. Although I was tired, the weather was beautiful outside (and calling my name) and the music was in Latin, I wanted to support him. As it turned out I was the only person that was there to support him and he was most grateful.

I was late for a meeting because of construction on Detroit highways. Because I couldn't go south on the Southfield Hwy off I-96, I went north to find and exit and then head back south. While waiting to turn around, there was an elderly couple standing on the side of the road with a 'Homeless due to fire. Please help' sign. Whether they were legitimate or not, I didn't care. I gave them $20.

I was in Ferndale the other day about to buy some Sushi for lunch. A man said hello and started telling me about meeting a local news personality just down the street and encouraged me to go meet him as well. We chatted for a bit and he asked me if I had some bus money so he could bring home some groceries. I gave him a few dollars and wished him well.

Today I spent some quality time with the girl that I mentor and listened to her tell me about how she is learning to relate to an autistic boy at her school. She has been told she is one of the few students he actually responds to and she is very happy about that! She thinks she may find a profession working with people with special needs and I encouraged her to do so.

Yesterday I was at Home Depot buying a wheelbarrow. There were 2 price stickers in a hard to see location. One said $10.00 and the other said $26.96. I thought I had read the words on the $10.00 sticker as 'Assembly cost' (the one I was buying was already assembled)but it didn't really register. When the clerk charged me $10.00 I thought 'Maybe it was the sale price!' and paid him the money. I stepped away and checked the price again. It should have been $36.96 including the $10 assembly cost. I informed him, he thanked me profusely and I paid him the difference.

Last night I hosted a potluck movie night and discussion group at my house. The movie was What the Bleep do we know? It was fun, and it gave us an opportunity to discuss the movie and get to know people. There were people that said they really needed to be able to just discuss a common idea with like minded people. We all learned from each other, and many had new ideas of how they can live their life in a more positive way.
